Here’s the simple truth: once the euphoria and the initial glow fades, these books and seminars would quickly take a back seat to everything else in your life.
And for those unlucky few that persevere with the lessons from the seminars and books, another harsh truth confronts them: the list demon. A typical time management program involves lists, either handwritten on notebooks or index cards, or typed into software. In addition, almost the entire industry is catered towards capturing routine tasks. But as we all know, it is the unending stream of unexpected tasks and obligations that are the bane of our existence. It’s like being taught to drive in a driving school course and then being asked to drive in the city during rush hour.
Sure, no one is denying that these seminars and books do work for some. However, for the majority of American executives, they don’t. Period.
Folks, it is easy to be tempted by bright shiny objects. We are sometimes so desperate for answers, we are willing to part with our hard-earned money at the merest whiff of a solution.
